Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 8

The Homerism brothers are white hot right now, finishing last week a combined 9-1. The law of averages has a little something to say about that.

On to this week's picks.

Blatant Homerism--Week 8
(Last week: 5-0; Overall: 23-12)

Kentucky at LSU (-9.5)

Slow your roll on the Wildcats.

The pick: Bengals from the Bayou 34, Big Blue 20.

Iowa State at Texas (-11.5)

I feel slightly dodgy making a play on the Longhorns. A team with that kind of propensity to hurt their own cause won't instill confidence in any bettor.

Normally, losing a tough rivalry game the week before would send me running the other way. If it's possible to come out the other side of a two-game losing streak feeling better about the state of your team, though, that applies here. The Longhorns have heard all year that they suck, but they hung tough with two of the better teams in the country in the last couple weeks.

The pick: That momentum carries over into a big win for the 'Horns.

Texas A&M at Alabama (-13.5)

The Aggies don't have the benefit of sneaking up on the Crimson Tide with how the last couple years have gone. They also don't have the benefit of having nearly as good a team.

After an ugly effort last week against Arkansas, look for 'Bama to come out smoking.

The pick: Tide by 20.

Temple at Houston (-7.5)

Nice story and all for Temple. Consider me a non-believer, sadly.

The pick: Cougars outlast the Owls on a warm Friday night deep in the heart of Texas.

Missouri at Florida (-5.5)

While I've got you here, check out Florida's remaining schedule. Now think about what Will Muschamp needs to do to save his skin. Seeing as the one game got cancelled this year, would a 7-4 record do it?

Assuming losses to Georgia and Florida State, you can see where this is going. If Coach Boom doesn't have his Gators ready to rip Mizzou limb from limb after last season's shellacking, he should save everyone the trouble and start packing.

The pick: UF, three field goals and a safety to one field goal.

The Skinny--Week 8
(Last week: 4-1; Overall: 21-13-1)

Iowa (+5) at Maryland
Stanford at Arizona St (+3.5)
Oklahoma State (+10) at TCU
Utah at Oregon State (+2)
Hawaii at San Diego State (-7.5)
