Picks Trying Not to Suck: Week 14
BH has clinched this year’s handicapping grudge match following last week’s 3-2 record against the spread. It’s all for pride this week, but we couldn’t leave you hanging.
Until next year.
BLATANT HOMERISM—Week 14
(Last week: 3-2; Overall: 34-29-2)
Washington (-5) vs. Utah
If I had to pick the most appealing play of the weekend, this is it. The Utes have survived the loss of key players on offense so far, but good luck against the Washington defense.
The pick: Huskies by eight.
Stanford (-3) at California
Cal doesn’t have the kind of offense that can take advantage of Stanford’s porous aerial defense.
The pick: Lay it with the Cardinal.
Clemson (-27.5) vs. Pittsburgh
I typically would shy away from betting a line this thick at this point in the year. The Tigers played so poorly last week versus South Carolina that I can’t. I think CU pounds the Panthers into dust.
If a team could score negative points, Pitt would do it this week.
The pick: Clemson 52, Pitt 0.
Akron at South Carolina (-30)
Once again, that’s a lot of wood. The Gamecocks have played well down the stretch, though, and the Zips have not. A body bag game with nothing on the line for the underdog? That typically goes one way.
The pick: Pains me, but S. Carolina giving 30.
Memphis (+3) at Central Florida
The Tigers get a shot at redemption with UCF QB McKenzie Milton out of the picture. Kinda figured this would fall closer to pick ‘em.
The pick: Underdog howling.
THE SKINNY--Week 14
(Last week: 3-2; Overall: 29-36)
Fresno State (+2.5) at Boise State
Alabama (-13.5) vs. Georgia
Clemson vs. Pitt (+30)
Washington (-5) vs. Utah
Texas (+8) vs. Oklahoma
