The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Oklahoma Sooners 34, Iowa State Cyclones 24

A win is certainly better than a loss. Survive and advance, or whatever cliches you want to use. If this were a bowl game, it would have been sponsored by Advil PM.

OU now sits at No. 9 in the country in both major polls, the only undefeated team in the Big 12, with three huge games left to end the year. Time to start playing with some serious energy after that nap in Iowa.

The Good

Dmitri Flowers

The fullback had a great game – save for blitz pickups issues – filling in for Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon. (In addition, it sounds like Abdul Adams is suffering from a hamstring injury, which is why we are not seeing the fantastic freshman everyone has been lauding.)

Whether it was the fourth quarter runs to seal the game or the great touchdown catch right beford halftime to give OU an 11-point lead, big Dimitri played great.

Erick Wren gets an extra year of eligibility

Just because it didn't happen during the game doesn't mean it's not good. Barring an ill-informed decision by Orlando Brown to declare early, OU could go into next season with its top seven or eight players returning, supplemented by two key redshirt freshmen and a great freshman OL class in recruiting.

The Bad

RBs' absence

Iowa State really took advantage of OU’s lack of RBs. The Cyclones blitzed off the edge time and time again, and Baker Mayfield obviously missed Mixon as an outlet when ISU dropped into coverage. The limitations in the game plan were clear, and ISU took advantage of them.

Injury bug

At some point, it has to stop biting OU. It’s absurd.

The Boring

The game

Both teams looked pretty flat all evening.

The second half was a major snooze fest. Bob Stoops just wanted to get out of town. Considering the circumstances, probably a good coaching move.
